Why It Is Not OK to Send Sensitive Information Over Email

An opened letter, representing communication over email.You should never send passwords, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, social security numbers, or any other sensitive information via email.
You may think that this information is kept between you and the recipient, but once it is sent, copies can be stored on the computers and email servers. Furthermore, the information will often be sent in clear text, with no security or encryption between the two servers. This allows anybody who is in-between to see your personal information.
If either email account is compromised by a hacker the information will be there waiting for them to steal.
